How it started

I‘ve always loved teaching others. I started out volunteering with my high school’s D÷v÷dends School Volunteer Program back in the '90s, walking across the street to the elementary school to work with 1st and 2nd graders on reading and math skills.

The flame was ignited! But there were so many other parts of me - photographer, writer, and child of parents who didn’t want to see me end up in a low-paying job. So off to college I went, seeking a degree in Advertising and Public Relations.

Three years after college though, I quit my high-paying job in advertising, became a bartender, a substitute teacher, then a teacher under Florida’s Alternative Certification Program, and went back to college to get my Master’s degree (M.Ed.) in Comprehensive Elementary Education.

How it’s going

Twenty-two years later, I’ve taught in public and private schools in Florida and Indiana, trained in Michigan for my 9–12 American Montessori Society certification, became a Montessori lead directress for the country’s first public Montessori school, was the Assistant Director of a private Montessori school, and now I’ve been homeschooling my own kids for SEVEN years.

Whew. That was a run-on sentence if I ever did see one. I swear I’m a good teacher. Math is usually where I struggle to shine. ;)

I also started my own secular homeschool group in Central Florida before moving to Richmond in 2024. That brings us to today.

Welcome to RVA East End Homeschoolers. I’m your Founder and Lead Navigator. In my free time, I enjoy photography, cats, sea turtles, and figuring out the entire plot of a movie - including who the bad guy is and how it ends - well before my husband does. We love spending time with our two kids going on many great adventures.
